Hinda Winawer, MSW, LCSW, Executive Director, Faculty
Ms. Winawer, co-founder of the Center, has taught family therapy since 1977. A member of the faculty of the Ackerman Institute for the Family, NYC, she was a founding member of the Institute's Alcohol, Drugs and the Family Project, featured in the HBO film "Drinking Apart". Adjunct Faculty for Rutgers University Graduate School of Social Work from 1978 to 1988, Ms. Winawer's international experience includes summer training faculty from 1977 to 1982 at the Family Therapy Institute of Heidelberg University as well as training seminars, workshops and presentations in Europe, Latin America and China. Hinda Winawer has been a psychotherapist, trainer, supervisor, and organizational and clinical consultant in psychiatric hospitals, health and mental health clinics, human service and substance abuse settings. A family therapist for more than 25 years, she is a Certified Social Worker in New York State, a New Jersey licensed Marriage and Family therapist and a New Jersey Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Ms. Winawer has published numerous articles and chapters related to couples and family therapy. A member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT), the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), the Association for Women in Psychology (AWP), Hinda Winawer is a charter member, former Program Chair and Family Policy Chair of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA) for which she recently served on the Board of Directors.

Norbert A. Wetzel, Th.D., Licensed Psychologist, Director of Training, Faculty
Dr. Wetzel, a New Jersey licensed psychologist (License # 35 SI 0263700) and marriage and family therapist, is co-founder of the Center. He was visiting professor at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, Rutgers University, from 1980-1991, specializing in couples and family therapy. Dr. Wetzel was previously faculty at the Family Institute of the University of Heidelberg Medical School. Among other books and numerous articles, he has co-authored The First Interview with the Family (Stierlin, et. al). Together with the other faculty members, Dr. Wetzel is currently guiding the Center’s Family Empowerment Program for inner-city youth and their families.
Dr. Wetzel is adjunct associate professor for couples and family therapy at the Princeton Theological Seminary and frequently lectures and conducts seminars for psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers in the United States and Europe. He is a charter member of the American Family Therapy Academy (AFTA), and a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the New Jersey Psychological Association (NJPA).

Glenda Mendelsohn, MSW, LCSW., New Staffing Coordinator, Faculty
Ms. Mendelsohn is a clinical social worker licensed in New Jersey and in Pennsylvania. She has over 20 years experience in the practice of social work and over 12 years experience in couples and family therapy. Ms. Mendelsohn received her MSW from Wurzweiler School of Social Work in New York City and received four years of post-graduate training in couples and family therapy from the Ackerman Institute for the Family, NYC. She has been a member of the staff at Lenox Hill Hospital and Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. Ms. Mendelsohn has consulted to local schools and has presented to diverse audiences on family dynamics and how family strengths and resources are highlighted in her work with couples and families. Currently, Ms. Mendelsohn practices in Princeton and in Langhorne, PA. She is a member of the Faculty of the Center and teaches in the Family Addictions Program.

CharlesEtta Sutton, MSW, LCSW., Faculty
Lecturer, consultant, noted presenter, author and distinguished family therapist, Ms. Sutton applies her expertise to the treatment of families and/or to larger scale interventions that focus on prevention, spiritual well-being and health promotion. She designs, develops and implements a variety of training and preventive programs targeting those "at-risk". She is most noted for her Train the Trainer work pertaining to families in crisis, loss, violence prevention, suicide intervention with families and adolescents, managing conflict and applying Ericksonian and Psychoneuroimmunology techniques throughout her work. She is co-author of Bridges: Building Skills To Reach Suicidal Adolescents, Sankofa: A Life Skills Curriculum, Take Hart (Healing and Recovery After Trauma): An Emergency Response to Terrorist in the United States, and of numerous articles and book chapters

Deidre Ashton, MSSW, LCSW., Faculty
is a psychotherapist specializing in the treatment of couples and families. A graduate of the Ackerman Institute for the Family, where she is now a teaching affiliate, and of Columbia University Graduate School of Social Work, she is also a member of the American Family Therapy Academy. Ms. Ashton’s areas of therapeutic interest are issues related to the interface of physical health and family experiences and behaviors. Her work has encompassed psychotherapy for HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, intimate partner violence, sexual trauma, as well as family and couple conflict. She has facilitated multi-family and multi-couple groups which address the impact of health issues on relationships, family lifecycle development and functioning. In addition, she has presented and provided training to others on many of these topics. Deidre Ashton received the prestigious Carl Kempner Award from the Ackerman Institute for the Family in recognition of her work in applying family systems approaches to health related issues. Ms. Ashton is especially committed to serving families who are often marginalized based on their gender and sexual identity, race or ethnicity. In her work, she seeks to attend to the ways in which power, privilege and issues of social justice influence relationships. She is especially drawn to the construction of narrative that empowers individuals and families to heal through storytelling and witnessing.

Gloria Lopez-Henriquez, MSW, LCSW., Faculty is a psychotherapist licensed in New Jersey and New York with over 15 years of experience working with families and couples. She holds a Master degree in Counseling from Montclair State University and a Master in Social work degree from Fordham University and received four years post-graduate training in couples and family therapy at the Ackerman Institute for the Family. Clinically, she has done extensive work with families challenged by life transitions mainly from childhood to adolescence and from adolescence to adulthood. One of her main areas of interest is the impact of migration in the family’s life cycle at the functional and developmental levels. She has presented nationally and internationally on these topics. She taught at Montclair State University, in the Department of Family and Child Studies and was the director of several school-based programs for children and families in NYC. Ms Lopez-Henriquez is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and the American Family Therapy Academy.
